The fire of Saint Jean

The fire tradition of Saint jean is one of the oldest of our region. The fire is lit on the night of the 23rd of june (summer solstice).

The flame hurtles down from the pic du Canigou in the hands of runners who relay it in order to transport it to all the towns and villages of Catalonia, thus lighting thousands of fires in order to celebrate the night of St Jean.

This festival is celebrated along with the "bouquet de la Saint Jean" consisting of four specific weeds : Walnut, St-John's-wort, orpin and everlasting flower. This bouquet brins luck and wellbeing.
