The tourist tax

What is the tourist tax used for ?

The tourist tax has been in force in France since 1910. It is levied in most tourist destinations. This tax contributes to the financing of public expenditure related to the reception of tourists. The amount of the tourist tax depends on many criteria such as the type of accommodation, capacity, classification and various allowances.

Good to know

All tourist accommodation offered for rent is subject to tourist tax, regardless of the method of promotion and marketing chosen.

Since 22 March 2012, the Warsmann Act requires property owners who rent out accommodation to declare their rental activity in advance to the local council, regardless of whether it is classified or not.
