Two exceptional artists, Friederike Schulz and Bernard Revel, trained at the prestigious Schola Cantorum in Basel, don the masks and costumes of comic figures born of the imagination of Italian actors of the Renaissance. These characters, who have become emblematic, have inspired the greatest playwrights, from Molière to Cervantes to Goldoni.
The show celebrates this heritage by giving voice to the traditional songs and refined compositions that have spanned the ages. In French, Italian and Spanish, the two performers bring to life a repertoire at the crossroads of cultures, blending anonymous melodies with works by composers sensitive to this popular art: Roland de Lassus, Jacques Arcadelt, Juan Vásquez, Juan del Encina and Étienne Moulinié.
A journey to the heart of a living theatre, where music and acting intertwine to resonate with the facetious, poetic soul of Commedia dell'arte.
Friederike Schulz: singing, bowed fiddle, acting
Bernard Revel: vocals, lute, archlute, renaissance and baroque guitar, comedy
